Beach Bums

We went on a road trip at the end of April. We drive down to Oklahoma, and then on down to Mississippi visiting Rachel's family. Pictures of that trip should be coming soon!

While there, we took the opportunity for Nathan's first trip to the beach. I never would have guessed that my boy's first beach trip would have been in Alabama... But it was a beautiful beach, except for the total lack of waves. No waves! Honestly, I've seen lakes that were more tumultuous.

We dug a seat for him in the sand, and set an umbrella up over him. Between the umbrella and the sand, I think he could almost actually see the ocean.

So I just wait here, then?

I at least got to swim. Poor Nathan had to sit in his little sandy prison and make funny faces at the camera.

Morning with Mommy

A recent morning, Rachel was holding Nathan and he was smiling while Harley licked his head. I grabbed the camera, and though I missed most of what I *wanted* to get, there were some pictures worth sharing.

It's hard to get a picture of him smiling because he's not quite comfortable with the camera. He stops whatever he's doing to look at the lights.

The one thing he always wants is attention. He doesn't fuss (much) when we are looking at him.

He loves the interaction!

Yawn!

Harley had been licking his face, but once I got the camera out, the two of them both calmed down. The best I could get was this tepid hand-licking.

It's sort of a smile, if you look closely. (and maybe squint your eyes a little)

I had to include some pictures of Nathan in his jogging stroller. He loves few things more than going for a good run! He loves everything about it. He loves the new sights and sounds, the closeness to mommy and daddy, and especially the bouncing of the stroller! Even the frustrating process of getting strapped in is worth it if he can go with us around our neighborhood for a few miles. Here he is, all excited ready to go. I think there is a tremendous amount of personality in these pictures.

Life Outside the Womb

Playing with Nathan in the office.

Notice the pacifier. After a while, it seems strange seeing his face without it.

He's a calm guy, but when he goes off... Rachel and I are thinking we'll have to deal with his temper some day.

Nathan sleeps a lot. I know that this is an obvious thing to say about a baby, but he really sleeps a lot!

Here he is sleeping on a "boppy" pillow.

And in the car seat. He doesn't mind the car seat, but usually putting him in or out sets him off.

He slept through his visit with the doctor.

Bundled up on his baby swing.

Here Nathan is rocking Mommy to sleep.

He's very observant - always noticing something.

I love how chubby he's gotten!

We sit him up every once in a while. This was one of the first times we did it. He's gotten a lot better at holding himself up already.

I think this looks like an album cover.

I think that Nathan and Uncle Tim both have the same facial expression in this picture. I'll be honest... this scares me.

He smiles more and more. I keep trying to get a picture of it, but haven't so far. This is the best one I've been able to get.

Nathaniel Kenneth Bonebright

Nathan was born at 4:16PM on December 26th. He weighed 6 lbs, 12oz, and was 20" long.

Just a few minutes old and already sucking his fingers!

Dr. Arendt - She's great! We had an apointment with her every week from 28 weeks on, so we have gotten to know her pretty well. Rachel and I are very grateful for her.

We were amazed at how alert he was. He stares at everyone, but when he looks at Daddy, well... it's special!

Here he's laying in the bassinet. I'd like to tell you he was staring at me, but his eyes were firmly fixed on the wall. Hey, he'd never seen one before.

Silly me, I figured the bath would be comforting... he'd been in water for 9 months! But, as you can see, I was very wrong!

It took him quite a while to calm down from that bath.

I love this picture.

Nathan and Harley's first meeting went very well.

Rachel with her two babies.
